The current economic recession and drastic budget cuts have dictated that the Festival’s main financial partners will not be renewing their support of the event this year. Consequently the Festival team and its partners have decided to cancel the 2009 Edition.
It is of particular note that the Festival had been named cultural event of 2008 by the Mont-Tremblant Chamber of Commerce at their 8th annual Gala of Excellence. The Chamber of Commerce had chosen the Tremblant Film Festival to be its contribution to cultural and economique development in the Mont-Tremblant region this year.
The Tremblant Film Festival evolved successfully over the past three editions becoming known for its high quality programming, interesting selection of renowned guests, its unique atmosphere and setting, and a growing public participation. These are perfect qualities for creating a successful event which can not only showcase creators and their works, but also stimulate economic growth in outlying regions during seasons when traditional tourist revenues are low.
New discoveries, youth workshops, and encounters among industry professionals have highlighted the Festival and a number of World Premieres presented at the Festival have gone on to respectable box office careers in both Quebec and Canada. Prestigious Festival Jury members like Gerard Krawczyk, Micheal Caton Jones, Laurent Lucas, Anne-Marie Cadieux. Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lyne Charlebois, Edward R. Pressman, and Micheline Lanctot presided over the presentation of prizes to films suchas: 24 mesures by Jalil Lespert: Blood Ties by Jacques Maillot; Michou d’Auber by Thomas Gilou; The Baker by Gareth Lewis; Charlie Bartlett by Jon Poll; La Faute a Fidel by Julie Gavras; and Shooting Dogs by MichaelCaton Jones.
Throughout, this exceptional production is the result of the dedication and hard work of Festival co-founders Louis Plamondon and Francois Rodrique with the collaboration of Daniaile Jarry along with a devoted team of allies, partners, volunteers and producing associates notably the Tremblant Village Association and the City of Mont-Tremblant. For these devotees of quality cinema, the Tremblant experience has been extraordinary and has demonstrated that cultural initiatives of this nature can grow and flourish achieving the highest standards of excellence. In order to maintain the capital of expertise and enthusiasm as well as the brand value generated over the past four years, the Festival is already in talks with various vested interests from different regions of Quebec with a view to relaunching a new edition in 2010. Thank you all for your continued interest and support. We look forward to sharing more cinematic moments in the future.
